300+ Subs and a New Bike!

My youtube channel (youtube.com/tavisbogue) is now over 300 subs. I do youtube just for my own enjoyment, but it's still cool to see the channel grow.

In other news, I just bought a new bike to commute on. It's a Yamaha FZ-07.

It's small, torquey, and maneuverable for fighting through traffic. It should be capable of 60+ mpg but the way I ride I'm currently getting about 45 on average. I'll have to do a tank of gas at a more miserly pace and see what I can get out of it.

I've also been running the GoPro on my commute. Once I get enough footage I will do a commuting series to share the...highlights.

Here's a video I made on this topic, you can check out the new bike and my initial impressions.

Trans West Virginia Trail 2017

Some buddies and I had another go at a version of the four day loop I put together from portions of the TWVT. Par for the course, we had some mechanical issues to deal with the first couple of days. We started the ride with eight riders and finished with six. We lost one to a failed hub and one to a seized engine. The weather ended up better than expected. Dust wasn't a problem and we didn't get too wet. Some of the roads look a lot different due to the gas drilling in the area. Next time I'm going to try a new route that I've been putting together that goes a bit more to the south.

Photobucket Fail

As I'm sure you've heard by now, Photobucket has made the questionable decision to disable all image linking unless its users pay up $400/yr. I am a long time Photobucket user and you will no doubt see a lot of this

here as well as on many of your favorite web sites.

I am not going to pay the ransom. I am hoping that the backlash will cause Photobucket to reconsider this decision. If not, I will have to go back through and try to manually repair all of the broken image links. This time around I will either upload them directly to this Blogger site, or I will implement my own photo hosting solution. If I decide on the latter, I'll share the directions for setting up your own photo hosting site. It is much less expensive to do than paying Photobucket.

Gas Gas is Back!

Specifically, my Gas Gas EC250. She was down for a little maintenance but is back in business now. I did a top end, new reeds, new air boot, and cleaned up and adjusted the billet SmartCarb. My buddy Al did some aluminum welding on the rear subframe to repair a crack. I did a little shake down ride this weekend (video below) and all seems well. She's definitely a little snappier with the fresh piston and higher compression ratio.

Durty Dabbers 2017

I really enjoyed doing the Durty Dabbers National Dual Sport in 2015. Due to a conflict I didn't get to go last year but luckily was able to make it happen this year. I believe they had all new alt sections this year and I found them to be challenging and fun. The long downhill alt was tough on a lot of the riders and the last alt of day two included a rocky hill climb that almost beat me. They also were able to add back in an old rail bed section that included a tunnel that was really fun to ride. I had a blast and hopefully will get to do this one again next year.

I'm going to do a series of YouTube videos of the various sections. Make sure you subscribe to my channel so that you can see them all.

Colorado

I finally finished editing all of the video I shot on last summer's trip to Ouray. I did some off-roading in the F-150 but I also had to bring along the Husaberg for some two wheel action (see Day 2 video). The Berg was right at home in the mountains. I can't wait to get it back out there to find some single track riding.
