Laurel Highlands Ride 9/25/2011

I met up with RCR member JeffB in the South Hills area and we headed down 51S towards Ohiopyle. We took our first short break at Linden Hall.

From there we snaked our way on some fun back roads to Mt. Davis, the highest point in Pa.

After a few pictures from the observation tower we headed towards Meyersdale for some lunch. We stopped at a morgue-turned-restaurant called The Morgeun Toole Company.

After lunch we rode up to check out the windmills. I hadn't been close to one before, even though I've driven by them dozens of times on the turnpike. They are pretty impressive.

After that we did some exploring and eventually ended up in Laurel Mountain State Park and then through Linn Run State Park. We took another break in Ligonier for some cheesecake and a tasty beverage.

The route to Ligonier:

Jeff put together a really great route. We hit a lot of nice fast gravel and dirt roads and even found a bit of mud. The pavement we road was smooth and twisty. The awesome scenery, along with some pretty nice weather, made the 300 miles easy.
